One of Bottega Veneta‘s most iconic handbags, The Cabat was designed by Creative Director Tomas Maier when he first joined the House in 2001. The supple and collapsable rectangular intrecciato tote made its debut for the Spring/Summer 2002 collection. The Cabat is completely unlined, woven by hand from strips of double-faced leather, and the finished product is completely seamless. What this means is the inside of the bag is just as beautiful as it is on the outside. There is no single thread or joint that holds the bag together and despite this, the tote is able to stand upright on its own. Each of these totes take the Bottega artisans two entire days to complete. Bottega Veneta issues only 500 totes every year, making them rare and sought by collectors. With the meticulous craftsmanship involved, what you’re really buying, is a work of art. Designed to be both spacious and lightweight, this version is hand-woven from tubular strands of wool wrapped in randomly perforated lambskin before executed in the double-faced Cabat weave. This treatment is exclusively done on a Cabat for F/W 2013. Finished with rolled handles and an interior zipped pouch with an engraved limited-edition tag.

Bottega Veneta

Discretion, quality, and craftsmanship — Bottega Veneta has created a new standard of luxury since its founding in Vicenza in 1966. Steeped in the traditions of Italy’s master leather craftsmen and long celebrated for its extraordinary leather goods, Bottega Veneta has recently emerged as one of the world’s premier luxury brands.

The company’s famous motto, “When your own initials are enough,” expresses a philosophy of individuality and confidence that now applies to a range of products including women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, fine jewelry, furniture, and more. While Bottega Veneta continues to grow, the qualities that define it are unchanging: outstanding craftsmanship, innovative design, contemporary functionality, and the highest quality materials. Also constant is Bottega Veneta’s commitment to its ateliers, where artisans of remarkable skill combine traditional mastery with breathtaking innovation.

The artisans who produce Bottega Veneta's handbags in Vicenza bring to their work certain intangibles-hundreds of years of local tradition, an intuitive undertanding of the product, and a shared aesthetic sensibililty that is not just Italian but specifically Venetian-that can't be replicated elsewhere.
