Editor's Note
One of Bottega Veneta‘s most iconic handbags, The Cabat was designed by Creative Director Tomas Maier when he first joined the House in 2001. The supple and collapsable rectangular intrecciato tote made its debut for the Spring/Summer 2002 collection. The Cabat is completely unlined, woven by hand from strips of double-faced leather, and the finished product is completely seamless. What this means is the inside of the bag is just as beautiful as it is on the outside. There is no single thread or joint that holds the bag together and despite this, the tote is able to stand upright on its own. Each of these totes take the Bottega artisans two entire days to complete. Bottega Veneta issues only 500 totes every year, making them rare and sought by collectors. With the meticulous craftsmanship involved, what you’re really buying, is a work of art. Designed to be both spacious and lightweight, this version is hand-woven from tubular strands of wool wrapped in randomly perforated lambskin before executed in the double-faced Cabat weave. This treatment is exclusively done on a Cabat for F/W 2013. Finished with rolled handles and an interior zipped pouch with an engraved limited-edition tag.
