Givenchy
Hubert James Taffin de Givenchy lanceerde het label in 1952 met een vrij eenvoudige lijn en twee jaar later debuteerde de Balenciaga-leerling al met een volledige prêt-à-porter collectie. Een passessie -naar aanleiding van deze prêt-à-porter - collectie met Audrey Hepburn was het begin van een legendarische ontwerper-muze relatie die wel veertig jaar geduurd heeft.
Hij gebruikte haar als het gezicht van zijn eerste parfum, L'Interdit, en daarmee werd ze de eerste actrice die een geur verkocht. Het Givenchy huis raakte daarna homerun na homerun met mode-iconen als Lauren Bacall, Jackie O. en prinses Grace als fan.
In 1973 lanceerde Givenchy een mannenlijn en drie jaar later nam het label ook stoffen, meubels, schoenen, sieraden en een Ford Lincoln Continental op in haar collectie. Givenchy trad toe tot LVMH in 1988 en na Hubert's pensionering in 1995 kregen zij bekendheid als een inspirator voor sterren als Alexander McQueen en John Galliano. De obscure Riccardo Tisci werd benoemd tot creatief directeur in 2005, maar na wat hobbels in de weg scoorde Tisci punten bij –onder andere- modejournalisten Suzy Menkes en Cathy Horyn vanwege zijn grillige herinterpretatie van het legendarische huis. Want tot grote vreugde van de moderedacties, smaakmakers en high-fashionista’s zette Tisci met zijn gotische ballerina stijl een stempel op de damesmode, herenmode, complexe haute couture en accessoires.
